Abstract

Abstract. This study aimed to understand the cathartic experiences of young people in the Revival Service (KKR) and its implications for spiritual formation. The study was conducted using a qualitative hermeneutic phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews and participant observation toward six youth from the BNKP Church. Data analysis was conducted using Sigmund Freud's catharsis theory and Thomas Csordas's concept of embodied experience. The results revealed three main findings: first, the phenomenon of split catharsis indicates a tension between the urge to express emotions and social-communal norms; second, catharsis is interpreted as a spiritual experience that integrates psychological, physical, and faith aspects; third, the sustainability of the healing effect depends on community support and continued spiritual practice.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan memahami pengalaman katarsis kaum muda dalam Kebaktian Kebangunan Rohani (KKR) dan implikasinya bagi pembentukan spiritualitas. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif fenomenologi hermeneutik melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi partisipatif terhadap enam pemuda Gereja BNKP. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori katarsis Sigmund Freud dan konsep embodied experience Thomas Csordas. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan mengungkap tiga temuan utama: pertama, fenomena split catharsis menunjukkan ketegangan antara dorongan ekspresi emosional dan norma sosial-komunal; kedua, katarsis dimaknai sebagai pengalaman rohani yang mengintegrasikan aspek psikologis, tubuh, dan iman; ketiga, keberlanjutan efek pemulihan bergantung pada dukungan komunitas dan praktik rohani lanjutan.
